Aquarian Renovations

Entered into a 'design only' agreement with Aquarian in September 2019. I paid a little over $10,000. We discussed the budget and proceeded. A little over a year later the estimate arrived and it was almost twice what we had originally discussed. There were lots of problems after this. Reviewing the estimate, I saw the cost for new cabinets was around $52k. I asked them to get a competitive quotation and they refused. The construction drawings had dimension errors on them, sent an email and asked them to correct it, no response. These were right off the RPR supplied a year earlier.
The building permit was rejected by the City because the design did not meet zoning requirements, sent an email and asked Aquarian to fix them, no response.
And it went on and on, issues with asbestos removal, blank checks written into the scope of the contract, more issues than I have the space to list them all. At the end Aquarian sent me an email and informed me that they were ‘closing my file’ due to ‘profound price increases from our sub trades...’ However, our contract was for design only and had nothing to do with the construction costs. I sent an email and asked for a refund, no response. And this is the big problem, you pay a company to perform some function, they decide to not complete the contract but keep the money anyways. This pretty much sums up Aquarian.
Filed a complaint with the BBB, apparently Aquarian couldn’t even be bothered to respond to them. Imagine if you hire this company and you have problems, they will just disappear like they did with me. I suggest if you want to hire a renovation firm, look elsewhere.
